I. DIRECT FOREIGN INVESTMENT STRATEGIES: AS A DEVELOPMENT FINANCE INSTRUMENT
We believe that, with the correct environment and with the appropriate direct foreign investment strategies, most developing countries may avail themselves of a premium alternative source of financing for their development programs, either through public private partnerships (PPPs) or private financing initiatives (PFIs). These sources is often overlooked, as illustrated by the absence of regulatory framework adapted or conducive to the implementation of public private partnerships or private financing initiatives structures in the field of infrastructure. In the absence of such regulatory frameworks, PRI, and the MIGA PRI in particular, have contributed to the successful implementation of public private partnerships or public finance initiatives structures possible.
II. ADVANTAGES OF FOREIGN DIRECT INVESTMENT:
We are strong believers in advantages of foreign direct investments (FDI) for fast growing and emerging countries. In particular, we believe that, with the correct policies in place, these countries can leverage, among others, the synergic effects:
- Job creation;
- Technology transfer
- Industry level demonstration effects
- Creation of backward linkages
- Enhancement of fiscal resources
This is why we have aligned our mission to support MIGA’s mission of promoting FDI in its developing member countries through the issuing of PRI in support of high quality investments that accord with the countries’ foreign direct investment strategies.
